"Die Republik Baklava" gibt vor, ein Dokumentartheaterstück zu sein, das von den historischen Ereignissen des griechischen Unabhängigkeitskrieges von 1821 ausgeht und sich in unserer modernen, digital vernetzten Welt abspielt. Es geht um den Versuch zweier junger Menschen, sich von der Last Jahrhunderte alter Stereotypen der Feindseligkeit zu befreien und zu einem neuen Selbst zu finden. Eine Gruppe von "Forschern" wird auf die Bühne gebeten, um die Geschichte der Nation, ihre Entstehung, ihre Konflikte und ihr Erbe zu rekonstruieren. Ausgehend von einer Reihe fiktiver, surrealer und komischer Situationen erforscht die Aufführung Fragen der Identität und der politischen Organisation durch den Filter der Gegenwart.

„Republica Baclava" este o piesă de teatru pseudo-documentară inspirată de evenimentele istorice ale Războiului de Independență al Greciei din 1821, plasată în lumea noastră modernă și conectată digital. Este vorba despre încercarea a doi tineri de a se elibera de povara unor stereotipuri de ostilitate vechi de secole și de a-și inventa o nouă identitate. Un grup de „cercetători" sunt invitați pe scenă pentru a reconstitui istoria națiuni, originile sale, conflictele și moștenirea sa. Bazat pe o serie de situații fictive, suprarealiste și comice, spectacolul explorează întrebări legate de identitate și organizarea politică prin filtrul prezentului.

„The Republic of Baklava” is a theatrical pseudo-documentary inspired by the historical events of the 1821 Greek war of independence, but set in our modern, digitally-connected, world. Its theme is two young people’s attempt to free themselves from the weight of age-old stereotypes of hostility and invent a new identity for themselves. A group of "researchers" are invited on stage to reconstruct the history of the tiny nation, its birth, conflicts and heritage. Based on a series of fictional, surreal and comic situations, the show explores issues of identity and political organisation through the filter of the present day.
